How do I register a vehicle into apportioned registration?
If this is a new apportioned account, form MV-550A will need
to be completed along with the title, insurance, US DOT number or a completed application, copy of lease agreement and a VIN tracing
and Weight Verified if the vehicle is titled outside of Pennsylvania.
A US DOT number can be obtained by completing an application MCS-150 through your local federal government or
online. If you apply online, you will be issued a US DOT number immediately.
I never received my renewal application, what do I do?
Contact the PennDOT Call Center with your apportioned account number or
vehicle information and a mileage report will be mailed to you within 8 - 10 working days.
Why is there mileage listed in a state that I did not drive
in last year?
If your renewal invoice and certified funds are received by April 15, you should receive your apportioned credentials before the June 1 deadline.
Renewal applications received after April 15, will be processed and mailed as quickly as possible.
Information on my renewal application is incorrect, how do I
correct it?
Make all corrections in red ink. Draw a red line through the incorrect data, list the appropriate corrections and submit
to the Department for processing.
Form MV-552A is used when adding a vehicle to an existing
PA apportioned account. Proof of insurance, vehicle title and any lease agreements if applicable are required. Vehicles
with out-of-state titles require a VIN tracing and weight verified by a certified inspection mechanic, attached to the paperwork.
Form MV-555 is used to add jurisdictions to your apportioned
account during the renewal year. Account information and actual or estimated mileage is required. Once we process the
application, a bill will be issued for the amount of the jurisdictions added.
How much will it cost to add another state to my account?
Because every jurisdiction charges different fees, an amount cannot be determined until the jurisdiction, miles and time
remaining in registration are calculated. A bill will be created and mailed for the total.
Form MV-552A is used to delete a vehicle
from your apportioned account. Apportioned account number and vehicle data is required to delete the vehicle.
Please remember to return the license plate so you are not billed the following renewal year.
Where can I go to pay my invoice? What payment methods will
be accepted?
Payments can be made at PennDOT's main building in Harrisburg. Pay close attention to the information included with your
renewal bill. The last two weeks of May and the first week of June, payment is taken at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Building
located in Harrisburg. The alternate location is utilized for our customers' convenience and greater parking facilities.
PennDOT's accepted methods of payment are: certified bank checks, cashiers check, money order, or (if in person) cash.
To cancel your apportioned registration account, you must submit your apportioned license plate and registration card
to the Department with a notification you are canceling your account. If you are trying to obtain a refund, refunds are
only issued to unused registrations. An unused registration is an unsigned registration card and unused registration sticker.
Once the sticker is affixed to the license plate, the registration is considered used.
